At the GEO Group, we facilitate the circulation of goods through our business activities, not only reducing CO2 emissions but also enabling initiatives to build a sustainable society in the areas of energy efficiency improvement, overseas business, and community activities.
We will address climate change and other environmental problems, so that our businesses lead to a better future.
Based on the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the GEO Group identifies, evaluates, and discloses the risks and opportunities that climate change issues pose to the GEO Group.

Climate change is seen as a critical challenge that the international community must immediately work together to tackle. In light of this, the Japanese government has announced efforts for achieving a decarbonized society, such as its declaration of carbon neutrality by the year 2050, which was made in 2020.
In keeping with the global framework on climate change and the Japanese government’s policy for a decarbonized society, the Geo Group declares its intent to achieve net zero GHG emissions by the year 2050.
We will continue to contribute to achieving a sustainable society via group-wide efforts for achieving reduction targets, such as expanding the number of our stores using electricity derived from renewable energy, installing LED lighting, and switching to paper-free operations.
| Medium-term goal (FY2035) | Long-term goal (FY2050) | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| GHG emissions compared to FY2019 | 50% reduction*1 | Achieve net zero*2 | |

We reduce energy consumed at our stores, thus accelerating initiatives to build a decarbonized society.
From 2024, we have adopted off-site PPAs and on-site PPAs at some of our stores, based on solar power generation.
A PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) is a contract whereby a business directly purchases electricity generated with renewable energy, such as solar, wind, or geothermal power, from an operator. With an off-site PPA, the operator supplies electricity from a remote facility located away from the site. With an on-site PPA, the operator installs a solar power generation facility at the site and supplies the generated electricity to the business.
We will continue to expand the number of stores adopting electricity derived from renewable energy as we strive to reduce our CO2 emissions.

The Geo Group has adopted environmentally-friendly LED lighting. By performing detailed temperature control and adopting efficient air conditioning equipment at some of our stores, we also strive to reduce CO2 emissions via energy-saving.
At our cash registers, we have adopted tablet devices to eliminate the need for paper receipts when making purchases. This enables us to save paper and make our work more efficient.
We have installed EV chargers for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles at some of our stores. By installing EV charging infrastructure, we contribute to reducing GHG emissions, while providing our customers with extra services and improved convenience.

We position our overseas business as a pillar of our growth strategy. We have opened 2nd STREET stores in the United States, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
In Malaysia, we wholesale reuse clothing and accessories that cannot be resold in Japan to local business operators, in addition to selling them at our stores.
In the United States, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong, we locally purchase and sell reuse clothing and accessories, thus advancing the effective use of resources. We contribute to the recycling-oriented society by creating new value for reuse items.
